Tasks

The Labour Force Survey has been conducted quarterly in Poland since May 1992 and is continuously improved in line with Eurostat recommendations. The LFS methodology is based on the definitions of economically active population, employed persons and unemployed persons adopted by the 13th International Conference of Labour Statisticians held in October 1982 and recommended by the International Labour Organisation. The survey covers the economic activity status of the population, i.e. whether a person was employed, unemployed or economically inactive during the reference week.

The main responsibilities of the Centre for Labour Force Survey (LFS) include:

  • verifying national data sets after completion of the survey and analysing survey errors and completeness,
  • participating in international meetings and projects related to the LFS, including those organised by Eurostat,
  • collecting, updating and providing access to legal acts concerning the LFS,
  • ensuring the translation of correspondence and other materials received from Eurostat into Polish, and documentation submitted to Eurostat into Englis,
  • cooperating with the Labour Market and Human Capital Department of Statistics Poland in the following areas, including:
    • developing methodological principles for the core LFS and ad hoc module surveys,
    • preparing methodological reports for the LFS,
    • preparing publications on the economic activity of the population based on the collected data.

As part of our activities, we cooperate with Statistics Poland, the Statistical Computing Centre, the Centre for Data Engineering, the Pomeranian Centre for Regional Surveys and the Centre for Working Conditions Statistics.

Quarterly publications are prepared on the basis of the generalised results of the sample Labour Force Survey (LFS) conducted by Statistics Poland.

A description of the survey and the currently applicable questionnaires are available on the Survey Information page Link to the Survey Information page.
